The Johnstown Galleria gaining national attention, leading filmmakers to look into documenting how it, and malls alike, are where they are today.
Producers from “It's A Mall World LLC" say they are making a documentary film about how malls are recovering from the so called “retail epidemic.”
They say they are at the Johnstown Galleria “to see if it would be a good fit.”
The malls owner, Leo Karruli, says the hard work by him and mall vendors is paying off.
“To get national attention is very good, because it’s more than enough just for me. I say it puts more in the people of Johnstown.” Karruli says.
One man says he expected a bigger turnout of people, saying, “the gentleman’s really trying hard to bring it back, but the people in town, they just won’t get on board.”
Visitors to the Galleria say they still notice a higher amount of vacant areas than what they say they would expect a mall to have.
Business owners and workers say to me they’ll take any help they can get.
“Anything that can help the mall is great. I think Leo is doing a great job at the mall. He’s trying to get new stores in. he is rebuilding the mall. It’s going to be great some day.” says Sal Tantillo, with 'The Den of Skillz.'
Film producers say they want to remind people that, as of Wednesday, they are still in the preliminary stages of putting their documentary together.
