BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials say a Cambria County nun was killed in a crash over the weekend.
Catholic church officials say they are mourning the loss of Sister Augustine Marie Molnar.
According to the Diocese of Scranton, the 43-year-old was killed Saturday in a head-on crash on Route 183 in Jefferson Township, Berks County.
They report she was headed to Reading for an annual religious retreat.
Sister Augustine Marie was a middle school religious teacher at All Saints Catholic School in Cresson, according to the National Catholic Register.
They report she also worked at John Paul II Manor as a physical therapist.
“Sister Augustine Marie’s ministry and presence in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown was a blessing,” Secretary for Communications for the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, Tony DeGol, said in a statement to 6 News. “In recent years, she taught Religion at two of our Catholic schools and exhibited a joyful passion for helping our students connect more deeply with Jesus Christ. The diocese joins her religious community in mourning her passing and praying for her eternal rest.”
The National Catholic Register reports that Sister Augustine Marie will be buried at St. Francis Xavier Parish Cemetery in Cresson following a funeral Mass held Monday, Nov. 27 at 11:30 a.m.
