SOMERSET - Passavant Memorial Homes recently assumed operations of the Bedford-Somerset Developmental and Behavioral Health Services residential program, which includes eight community homes and 19 individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Passavant Memorial Homes was selected as the provider of choice in May from a slate of qualified agencies, and officially transitioned the consumers on Oct.1.

The transition was successful due to the collaborative efforts of Passavant Memorial Homes and Bedford-Somerset DBHS. Both organizations will continue to work together in support for providing quality services for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Bedford and Somerset counties.

Passavant Memorial Homes, which has corporate offices located in Warrendale, Pennsylvania, also assumed Bedford-Somerset DBHS’s Lifesharing/Family Living Program in May 2016, which included 10 Lifesharing providers and 13 individuals.

Both acquisitions mark Passavant Memorial Homes’s first residential program in central Pennsylvania. The nonprofit organization has more than 130 residential homes throughout the communities of Pennsylvania and serves more than 850 individuals in various capacities.

“Due to federal and state requirements, DBHS was required to divest some programs,” Bedford-Somerset DBHS Administrator Mary Piatt-Bruner said in a news release. “Over the past two decades, Passavant Memorial Homes has a solid track record of providing high-level care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

“We appreciate their willingness to care for our commonwealth’s most vulnerable citizens.”
