The Humane Society of Cambria County held their first ever Clear the Shelter Adoption event this weekend.

This comes as the number of shelter animals has steadily increased since the pandemic.

Twenty-one animals have been adopted this weekend so far but 56 are still without homes.

The Humane Society urges people to give these animals a chance at a good life and to not give up on them.

“Adopting is always better than shopping," said Kelli Ruiz, executive directory of the humane society. "Shopping you don’t know what you’re going to get with the puppies and you’re paying a lot of fees for these puppies whereas adopting you’re giving a chance to an animal that is living a shelter life. A lot of our animals are very sweet, very kind. It just takes a little warming up for an animal so when you get the animal home don’t give up on that animal right away. Give it some time to decompress and fit in with your family. Shelter animals are wonderful pets to have at home.”
