Love it or hate it, there's no denying that Valentine's Day is big business. This holds especially true for candy stores.
Valentines will spend quite a bit of money to show their love on this special day. According to the National Retail Federation, shoppers will spend more than $20.7 billion for the sake of love each year...and $1.8 billion of that will be spent on candy alone.
Gardners Candies Manager Sheri Harrison told 6 News, "Everybody's really excited when they come in. We have little kids coming in, looking for things for their classmates, a lot of times their moms kinda helping them choose what's the best item to get."
While the majority of money is spent on significant others, those who have kids are usually big Valentine's Day spenders because they have more people to buy for, including their children's classmates and teachers.
6 News' Samantha York visited Benner Elementary School and Marion-Walker Elementary School in Bellefonte to ask students about their thoughts on love and valentines. Many of them had very profound thoughts on love and families were the most popular valentines of all.
