Despite the Ebensburg “Wheels N’ Wings” event being canceled, local businesses are coming together to put on “Wing Walk.”

Dozens of people are used to coming to Ebensburg in June to enjoy wings, beer and motorcycles during the annual “Wheels N’ Wing.” After it was announced the event would be canceled because of coronavirus concerns, local businesses came up with an idea.

“It means a lot to our community, just like Thunder does to Johnstown. When the cancellation occurred, we saw something that sparked our summers as far as finances and business is concerned, get thrown out. And I know it’s just a small thing, but it’s a small thing that can help a little bit,” said owner of Coal County Brewing, Mike Kutchamn.

The “Wing Walk” idea is for people to walk around Ebensburg and visit the different bars and restaurants to try a variety of food and drinks.

“We’re offering actually a three-wing. So, you can get a dozen, half a dozen or you can just get three wings. That way it’s going to encourage people to go from place to place. You know stop by, talk to your friends here, and then move onto the next place,” said owner of Rik N’ Nik’s, Richard Ardini. “And then we’re introducing a new wing flavor. Every year we introduce a new wing flavor at Wheels N’ Wings and we want to introduce this flavor, General Tso’s,” said Ardini.

Eight businesses are participating, all working to help support one another.

“While there is a certain element of competition, it’s also a friendly competition and I know most of the owners of the other restaurants and everybody odes work together. There is enough business to go around for everybody and everyone does their own unique thing and has their own unique offerings and I think it’s great for the community,” said owner of Our Station House, Gary Sloan.

Business owners are anxious to offer this alternative for the community to enjoy, while also staying safe.

“And if it gets crowded at one particular spot, move onto the next and come back. The key is we are going to make sure social distancing and masks and all the CDC guidelines are followed because we have to. So we want to make sure everyone is safe while we do this,” said Kutchman.

The “Wing Walk” kicks off Thursday night at four in the afternoon.
