INDIANA -- A man already jailed on charges stemming from a deadly fight with his fraternity brother at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania has now also been charged with criminal homicide.
Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty says he expects to pursue a third-degree murder or manslaughter conviction against 19-year-old Brady DiStefano, of Johnstown. He is a Westmont Hilltop High School graduate.
Indiana borough police had already charged him with aggravated assault and other charges for allegedly beating and choking 20-year-old Caleb Zweig, of Rockville, Maryland, off campus on Feb. 4.
The homicide charge was added Thursday after the county coroner confirmed that Zweig died of strangulation.
Defense attorney Thomas Dickey says DiStefano "is not guilty of any of these charges against him."
Both men were members of Phi Delta Theta. Zweig was a junior English major. DiStefano, a freshman, has withdrawn.
