MIFFLINBURG, UNION CO. (WOLF) — The Mifflinburg community is recovering from a tornado that touched down Sunday afternoon and caused heavy damage to homes and barns.

After a tornado was observed in central Pennsylvania, the Mifflinburg Hose Company and the rest of Union County were notified that a tornado touched the ground west of Mifflinburg at around 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Firefighters say that the tornado was confirmed at Forrest Hill Road and Red Bank Road. Crews found roofs that were blown off a barn and house, trees that were knocked down and other damage from the tornado.

They also received notification of another storm cell that was coming through the area and they observed another rotation in the sky. Although the departments were prepared, it is believed that nothing else was formed.
Multiple units operated for several hours to help with the damage.
Following the tornado observations, the National Weather Service (NWS) will be performing storm damage surveys in Union, Snyder, Northumberland, Juniata, Perry and Dauphin Counties. The two survey teams will post their findings on www.weather.gov/ctp
