Williamsburg High School teacher accused of having sex with a student

WILLIAMSBURG - A teacher at Williamsburg High School has been charged by state police with having sexual intercourse with a student. According to police, Nikki Varney, 44, has been charged with institutional sexual assault, statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with minors.

WILLIAMSBURG - A teacher at Williamsburg High School has been charged by state police with having sexual intercourse with a student.

According to police, Nikki Varney, 44, has been charged with institutional sexual assault, statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors and unlawful contact with minors.

Police said their investigation began after the school reported to police that Varney was in a sexual relationship with a male student.

The investigation led officers to discover that the sexual encounter between Varney and the student took place over the summer.

Varney is in the process of being arraigned in Blair County.

Willamsburg Community School District's Superintendent Lisa Murgas confirmed that Varney has been placed on administrative leave.

According to the district's website, Varney has been teaching since 1997 and she currently teaches science, chemistry and physics. She is also a sponsor of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science.
