West Virginia man killed in Bedford County crash involving tractor-trailer

BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) State police say a West Virginia man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash, involving a tractor-trailer, in Bedford County. Investigators say 70-year-old Walter Kwapien, of Morgantown, WV, was reportedly stopped at a stop sign, near the intersection of Allegheny Road and Hyndman Road, in Manns Choice Borough.

State police say a West Virginia man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash, involving a tractor-trailer, in Bedford County.

Investigators say 70-year-old Walter Kwapien, of Morgantown, WV, was reportedly stopped at a stop sign, near the intersection of Allegheny Road and Hyndman Road, in Manns Choice Borough.

Police say Kwapien then proceeded to cross Hyndman Road and was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer.

Troopers say the driver of the Peterbilt reportedly did not have time to stop or slow down.

Officials say Kwapien's vehicle overturned several times following the impact.

Troopers say Kwapien was transported to UPMC Bedford where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the driver of the Peterbilt was not injured in the crash.
