An unidentified individual is facing felony animal cruelty charges after severely maiming a dog in South Coatesville.

Staff with the Brandywine Valley SPCA says Ava came to their shelter in December after being found by a neighbor.

The neighbor, hearing Ava's cries, concerningly called officials with the Brandywine Valley SPCA Protectice Services.

Authorities say they went to the South Coatesville home, finding Ava severely emaciated with multiple brutal injuries.

After being brought to the facility, SPCA medical team found that one of Ava’s eyes had been severely damaged, along with having multiple older fractures in her leg and ribs, and damage to her lungs and multiple broken teeth.

Staff also states that Ava's back leg was so badly damaged that they needed to amputate it.

Although needing extra attention and all hands on deck for specialized care, staff says Ava is a fighter:

Through this entire ordeal, and despite the trauma she has endured, Ava has show what a survivor she is, and we will make sure she continues to receive the care she needs. We are committed to seeking justice for Ava and are grateful to our Humane Officers who were able to secure felony charges in her case. - says Adam Lamb, BVSPCA’s Chief Executive Officer

Since Ava was taken in, officers have located and charged the person responsible for her beating with four counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals and four misdemeanor counts of cruelty and neglect charges.

BVSPCA says Ava will be available for adoption once she recovers more and they are able to get her weight up to a healthy number.

During her recovery, one of the staff members is fostering Ava for around the clock care.

The BVSPCA has also posted a donation option on Facebook to help cover the numerous medical expenses that Ava will need on her road to recovery:
