The Ideal Market in downtown Johnstown will soon be closing its doors.

According to a press release sent to 6 News Friday, the Ideal Market on Walnut Street near the War Memorial will close this summer.

The release states that the Ideal Markets in Geistown, Seward, Vinco and Homer City will not be impacted.

“The business climate in the downtown area has changed significantly in recent years,” explained owner Dave Mihalick.

In the release, Mihalick, who is turning 70, said he’s considering the closure a retirement closure.

“We have a lot of great customers downtown, but recently we’ve had trouble finding enough qualified staff,” Mihalick said. “We worked through the pandemic, and we shortened evening hours, and eliminated Sunday, but really it’s just time for a new chapter.”

He noted that several key employees have been offered jobs at other Ideal locations.
