Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after law enforcement officers shot and killed a man in Spring Garden Township, York County, who fired at them during a domestic incident Saturday evening.

According to a press release, state police were called to assist the Spring Garden Township Police Department for the report of a domestic violence incident just after 11:15 p.m. on the 600 block of Colonial Avenue.

State police said it was reported that a male, later identified as Payden Sells, 34, of Spring Grove, was on scene with multiple firearms trying to gain access to the residence.

The press release states that, as officers arrived on scene, they encountered Sells exiting the residence, who then began shooting a firearm in the direction of law enforcement officers.

According to state police, officers returned fire, fatally striking Sells.

The press release states that no civilians or officers were injured as a result of the gunfire, but one officer suffered other minor injuries during the incident.

State police said that all troopers and officers who discharged their duty weapons will be placed on administrative duty pending a review of the investigation by the York County District Attorney’s Office.

According to the press release, officers from the York City Police Department, Springettsbury Township Police Department, York County Regional Police Department, and West York Borough Police Department also responded to assist.
