CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Thursday was the last day of the Aerium Summit at the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, which featured Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis speaking at the event.
Lt. Gov. Davis is also the chair of the Pennsylvania chapter of the Aerospace States Association.
Davis says he wants to support growing industries in the Commonwealth, like aerospace and aviation, to compete with nearby states like Ohio and West Virginia.
The Lieutenant Governor says the work that Aerium is doing now is more important than ever.
"You're all creating a workforce of the future. By cultivating the pipeline between students, educational institutions and the aviation and aerospace industries. Aerium is preparing the next generation to learn, grow and fly."
The goal of the summit was to connect high school students to local businesses in need.
Officials say there's a need for tens of thousands of employees in the aviation and aerospace industries.
Meanwhile, Raewyn Duvall, a program manager and research associate was recognized Thursday for piloting a rover in space.
"I led a team of amazing students, mostly undergraduates to put a university rover, non-governmental rover in space this last year. While it didn't reach the moon, it was a lunar over. While it didn't reach the moon, we were able to turn on and proof all of the systems."
