SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — It was a lucky day for dozens of dogs who were rescued from a kill shelter and brought to our region at a chance of finding a new home.
The Humane Society from Somerset County recently rescued 32 dogs from a high intake shelter.
“These dogs came from high kill shelters and were at risk at euthanasia, so we helped the shelters by taking them, said shelter manager, Nancy Dantzig.
The Humane Society of Somerset County was given a private grant to make this rescue mission possible.
“We are a no kill shelter. We never euthanize for any reason except for illness and that’s extreme illness when recommended by a vet. So, to be able to give these puppies from 8 weeks old to 3 years old a chance at life, it means a lot,” said Dantzig.
All of the dogs ranging in size, breed and age are up to date on their vaccinations and ready to be adopted.
“They are all fully vetted and that is something I insist on before they come here. I don’t certainly want to bring something to our shelter or our community either,” said Dantzig. “I just feel very lucky that we are able to help the dogs, the other shelters and give them a good chance at a new home,” she added.
