The resignations of two police officers and the chief of police were accepted Monday night at Bellefonte Borough's council meeting.

Bellefonte Borough police officers Matthew Pollock and Jason Brower resigned earlier this year and police chief Shawn Weaver resigned after being the chief since 2006.

Borough officials are still not commenting on the reason for their resignations.

The acting police chief of Bellefonte Borough is now William Witmer.

The council also approved the borough manager to begin the hiring process for a permanent chief of police.

Witmer spoke about why he thinks he's the right choice for the acting chief.

"I’m closing in on my 20th year of law enforcement, I worked at several different places, I have new ideas, I believe I have good leadership skills. I think I can take this department in the right direction."

Witmer also says he plans on applying to be the next chief of police.
