NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WJAR) — The Massachusetts man reported missing while on a trip to Puerto Rico was found dead on Friday, Telemundo Puerto Rico reported.
The family of 28-year-old Alex DaLomba Tavares said he was reported missing Wednesday night. Tavares, of New Bedford, was in Puerto Rico with his girlfriend.
According to Telemundo, Tavares’ body was found on the banks of the Culebrinas River and was identified by his girlfriend.
The family told WJAR his girlfriend called them Wednesday to tell them Tavares was reportedly swept away by water during the couple's visit to the Gozalandia Waterfalls in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico.
The San Juan area experienced severe thunderstorms and flash flooding on Wednesday.
