A Somerset County Church is hosting a chili cook-off Sunday to help those in need.

Sam Childers, also known as the machine gun preacher, is the guest speaker and says the cook-off is being held at "3 C’s Church" in Central City.

He stresses that anyone can enter, but you don’t have to make chili to come enjoy a free meal.

Childers says the purpose of the event is to give people hope and get them excited following the difficulties of the last two years.

“Listen, we just want to get people a little excited, you know, we’ve got a new year, things are opening up, we’re going to be paying either $200 on someone’s fuel bill or light bill, we’re going to be giving out gift certificates for groceries, those are just door prizes. So what we’re doing is encouraging everyone in the community, outside of the community, we don’t care where you’re from, come out and get a free lunch, get an opportunity of winning a good prize,” said Childers.

The church service starts Sunday at 10:30am followed by lunch at 12:30pm.
