MUNSON, Pa. – We’re halfway through October, which means we're approaching Halloween. One Clearfield County teen spent thousands of dollars to help get people into the spirit.

"I just have free time,” decorator Park Lauffer said. “It's kind of a hobby that's gotten a little out of control."

Lauffer told 6 News it all started with Christmas, but then the weather would get in the way with his setup. So he decided to go big for Halloween instead.

"I just do it because I like to do it, and I kind of always hope more people will come," Lauffer said.

Lauffer, 18, is building the spirit for Halloween, literally.

"It started when he was really little, and it just got bigger and bigger... his first word was light," his mother, Ann Lauffer, said.

Fast forward to 2018, and Park Lauffer has his biggest display yet.

"I have a lot more free time to build things, and I actually started to build my own props and stuff too, which really saved on the money side," Park Lauffer said.

Not much is going on along Casanova Road, but Park Lauffer continues to go big with decorations for Halloween.

He builds everything himself, from the ghosts to the lights, animations and even the special audio for the props.

"I'm so proud... he's very thrifty. I remember when we used to set up garage sales to raise money for him to go to the store to buy sheets and stuff,” Ann Lauffer said.

"Obviously, the inflatables are all purchased, but I do customize some of them by sewing parts together, changing things out. For the most part, all of the ghosts in my graveyard are built by me," Park Lauffer said.

It takes some time for it all to be put together. Park Lauffer said the setup took about three weeks.

"So last Halloween, before I even started to tear down, I was building props and stuff," Park Lauffer said.

He says it’s an outlet for his creative side, but it also brings smiles to many faces while getting people ready for the spookiest day of the year.

"That's really the heart of it for me... is showing it around to people," Park Lauffer said.
