FRIANT, Calif. (KMPH) — A father and daughter were rescued from the San Joaquin River Sunday after their kayaks got stuck on debris.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. north of Lost Lake on North Fork and Friant Road.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says they used their boat to get the man off the middle island he was stuck at and used rescue swimmers to help save the daughter in the river.
People are wanting to come and be in the water and we just want to remind everyone to be cautious of what you guys are doing and make sure and make sure you are wearing your personal flotation devises and make sure you guys have a back up plan and emergency contacts in place.Multiple agencies helped with the rescue, including the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, CAL FIRE, State Park Rangers, and American Ambulance.
No injuries were reported.
Tips from Cal EOS:
- Never swim alone or jump in after someone who has fallen in. Always bring a friend or someone who can call for help if needed.
- Remember, swift water is snow melt so just a few minutes in this water can incapacitate you.
- Most importantly, always wear a lifejacket.
