After a four year pause due to the pandemic, the "Purple Puck hockey game" will be making its return to Galactic Ice this Sunday, January 28th.

The Purple Puck game is an effort between the Penn State Altoona men’s hockey team, the Griffith Family Foundation, Easter for Eli and the Mario Lemieux Foundation.

It serves as a fundraiser for the organizations involved, as well as a way to celebrate those who have beat cancer, support those who are fighting it and honor those who have lost their battles.

“Alone, we can do so little. Together, we can do so much. And so, this is what Purple Puck represents - is all of us coming together with our gifts, with our talents, the cause of cancer; and really just giving hope that there is hope on the horizon for the cancer community,” said Cathy Griffith, president of the Griffith Family Foundation.

The doors open at Galactic Ice at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The players will be there to meet with the spectators.

There will also be a silent auction featuring a signed Mario Lemieux jersey and a signed Sam Lafferty jersey.

Lafferty is a Hollidaysburg native who currently plays in the NHL for the Vancouver Canucks.
