Two Army Drill Sergeants were found dead on base at Fort Jackson in South Carolina just eight days apart. Both men were from Alabama.

WBMA reached out to the Army to find out where they are at in the investigation and are waiting for a response. However, a spokesman for Fort Jackson told Military.com that the two deaths are unrelated.

According to U.S. Army Garrison Fort Jackson, Staff Sgt. Zachary Melton was found dead in his car on Dec. 16 after not showing up for work. The 30-year-old was from Huntsville.

According to the release related to his death, Melton spent more than 10 years in the Army and served as a drill sergeant on Fort Jackson for the last three years.

"We are extremely saddened by the loss of Staff Sgt. Melton,” Brig. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, Fort Jackson commanding general, said. “Our thoughts are with his family and the soldiers of the Always Forward battalion during this very emotional time.”

Just eight days prior, Staff Sgt. Allen Burtram was found dead, after also not appearing for work. The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating but stated there is no apparent evidence of foul play.

Burtam served in the army for 12 years, with the last 18 months as a drill sergeant on Fort Jackson.

"Our hearts are with the family of Staff Sgt. Burtram during this extremely difficult time,” Brig. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, Fort Jackson commanding general said. “We are deeply saddened at the loss of one of our own."

According to the Army, the 34-year-old's home of record is Cleveland, in Blount County.
