Johnstown, Pa — The world's best amateur golfers are in Johnstown for the 82nd Sunnehanna Amateur.
Between Wednesday and Saturday people at home will have the chance to attend Sunnehanna Country Club to watch the best of the best for free.
You may not recognize their names now, but many in the tournament will go on to play on the PGA tour.
The first group of players is scheduled to tee-off at eight A.M. and weather permitting - dozens more will follow throughout the day.
While most amateur tournaments typically don't draw a big crowd, that's not the case with the Sunnehanna Amateur.
That's one of the reasons organizers say those traveling from around the world to come here are so impressed.
"The number of people commenting on how much they love being here, how they're treated, and enjoy being in Johnstown," said John Yeger, Co-Chairman of the Sunnehanna Amateur. "I think the value is underestimated as to what this means on a national basis for our club, but most importantly for the community as well."
This tournament has a rich history with names like Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer and many other golf greats playing here before they turned pro.
Golfers from 12 different countries are all here this week to not only try to win this tournament, but to also follow in the footsteps of the many great players that came before them.
"If you turn on the tv to the PGA tour every week, you're going to see if not the champion of this tournament, somebody in the top 5, several of those players," Yeger added.
Each round starts at eight A.M Wednesday through Saturday.
Organizers want to stress it is free to attend.
