Police investigating early morning shots fired incident in Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) — Altoona police are investigating an early morning shots fired incident near a local bar. Police say officers were dispatched to the area near Zach's Sports Bar, located along 6th Ave., just before 1 a.m. Thursday, for multiple reports of shots being fired. Officers say several individuals fled the area when police arrived. Police say officers did recover shell casings in the bar's parking lot. No injuries were reported in the incident and anyone with further information is asked to contact Altoona police detectives at 814-949-2564.

USC protest encampment cleared, arrests made at University of Virginia

Students protesting the ongoing war in Gaza left a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Southern California early Sunday after they were surrounded by police and told they could face arrest if they didn't go. The move, days before commencement was set to begin, came after the university said campus safety officers, assisted by the Los Angeles Police Department, were clearing the area. 40+ dogs found alone on property after owner passed away, officials say

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Humane society officials say they were called to help capture nearly 40 dogs found roaming a property after the alleged owner had died. Officials with the Cambia County Animal Response Team (CART) say state police responded to a property in southern Indiana County Thursday. CART officials say they were later called to help the Indiana County Humane Society in gathering the estimated 40+ dogs roaming free on the grounds.

Best year in a decade for Blair County airport in 2023 despite loss of over 400k posted

A financial report states the Altoona-Blair County Airport had an operating loss of over $400,000 in 2023, but the airport manager said that number is out of context, and they had money in hand by the end of the year. The Altoona-Blair County airport manager Tracy Plessinger said even though it is a smaller airport they manage about $42 million in assets, and those assets losing value is what makes it appear as if the airport lost money.
