Ashley HomeStore to open at DuBois Mall

DUBOIS, Pa. - A furniture store that closed last week in Clearfield County will soon reopen as an Ashley HomeStore. The new store will replace the former By The Room Furniture store, located on Shaffer Road at the DuBois Mall. By The Room Furniture officially closed Oct. 4. Pam Miller, President of MillerHome, said By The Room Furniture was truly going out of business. She was recently presented with the opportunity to own and operate the new Ashley HomeStore.

McDonald's looking to hire 150 new employees in State College area

STATE COLLEGE, Pa (WJAC) — McDonald's announced Thursday that its restaurants in the State College area are attempting to fill 150 new openings, according to a release. The release adds that beginning Friday, all five area restaurants will begin a "quick-hire initiative" in an attempt to fill these positions. “We are in a very difficult and uncertain time,” said Owner/Operator Joe Nyanko. “The local economy has taken a major hit with the loss of many annual events and the university’s pause in operations.

One person dead following shooting at mall in Texas

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI) — One person is dead following a shooting at the North Star Mall in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon. Police say the shooting was an isolated incident inside a barbershop at the mall around 3 p.m. According to the police, two suspects went inside the barbershop and shot the victim while he was getting a haircut. Police say the victim has been pronounced dead. Officials are actively searching for the suspects who fled the scene.

Pentz Run Youth Services breaks ground on new building for at risk youth

DuBois, PA — Pentz Run Youth Services in DuBois is a residential program for at risk disadvantaged youth. This afternoon they hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for their new facility in hopes of continuing that mission. Pentz Run Youth Services provides alternative living arrangement for kids throughout the commonwealth. "Those are the kids who might have some behavioral issues or some lack of supervision at home, maybe some truency issues," said Debbie Gregori, Executive Director of Pentz Run Youth Services.

Restaurants reopen dining rooms after state lifts restrictions

DuBois, PA — Restaurant owners in Clearfield County said Christmas and New Year's is the busiest time of the year for them but while they had to shutdown for four weeks, they're happy to finally reopen their dining rooms. "It has really hurt us as an industry as a whole it has hurt for sure. We just keep looking towards the spring and summer but it's been survival mode," said Robin Meholick, Sales Manager of The Hitching Post.
