Murder, kidnapping suspect appears in court for first time after escaping from PA jail

Warren County, PA — A judge in Pennsylvania decided kidnapping suspect Michael Burham will face charges for both that crime and for escaping from jail. It all started in May, when he allegedly kidnapped a couple in their home and forced them to ride with him to Charleston, South Carolina. Police say he was on the run from murder charges in a nearby New York community. The wife told the court Monday what that 18-hour drive was like.

One person flown to hospital following motorcycle crash near Elk Co. hotel

Elk County, PA (WJAC) — Authorities say one person was flown to the hospital Monday afternoon following a motorcycle crash near the Medix Hotel in Elk County. 911 officials say the crash, which occurred just before 2 p.m., resulted in the temporary closure of Quehanna Highway, between Route 255 and Silver Mill Road, in Medix Run. State police officials confirmed that the operator of the motorcycle suffered moderate injuries in the crash.

Police respond to shooting at Monroeville strip mall

MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Police are investigating a shooting at a western Pennsylvania strip mall. Monroeville police were taping off the Miracle Ear store outside a small plaza in this municipality about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh. The shots were reportedly fired just after 2 p.m. and there was broken glass at the hearing aid store, where calls were being routed to corporate offices. The company didn't immediately respond to a call seeking comment.
