Johnstown man hit woman with bat after she refused to get him a cheeseburger

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Police say a Johnstown man struck a woman Wednesday with a baseball bat because she refused to get him a cheeseburger. Police say the incident happened at a home on the 600 block of Bedford Street. According to a criminal complaint, 26-year-old Michael Felton was arguing with the woman and when she refused to get him one, he got a bat and struck her over the head with it.

Man charged with burglary, raping woman at Altoona Motel 6

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — Police arrested a man they said forced his way into a woman's hotel room and repeatedly raped her for 6 1/2 hours. According to Logan Township police, 51-year-old Kevin Thompkins assaulted the victim sexually and physically at a Motel 6 along Sterling Street from 11 p.m. Friday until 5:30 a.m. Saturday. In a criminal complaint, the victim told police she and Thompkins had been on-and-off friends for about a year.

Contract talks continue nearly 2 months into strike at Pennsylvania locomotive plant

ERIE, Pa. (AP) — Contract negotiations between the country's largest locomotive manufacturer and its striking union workers continued in Erie on Thursday, nearly two months after some 1,400 people walked off the job. Brenton Davis, the Republican elected Erie County executive, said this week he was concerned Wabtec may be considering a plant closure and outsourcing of its operations. Scott Slawson, president of Local 506 of the United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America, said a potential plant closure was not discussed during talks Thursday he described as productive.

Johnstown plastic surgeon pleads guilty to Medicaid, insurance fraud

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- A Johnstown plastic surgeon pleaded guilty Friday to two felony counts of Medicaid and insurance fraud. Dr. Daniel R. Nevarre was sentenced to six to 23 months of house arrest, followed by three years of probation. “When people commit Medicaid fraud, they’re stealing tax dollars from people who are in real need of health care services,” Attorney General Josh Shapiro said. Nevarre was the owner and operator of Plastic Surgical Associates of Johnstown until its sale in May 2017.
